Some of the world’s first carpets were woven by the Turks of Central Asia. Turkish carpets have double knots, know as the “Gordes Knot” and are indeed works of art. Turkish tiles are also world-famous, dating back thousands of years. Turks brought tilemaking to its zenith with its centers in Kutahya and Iznik, using them to decorate the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and many other famous monuments. On this tour, participants will have chances to visit carpet weaving centers, tile artisans, and other craft centers, making for an especially interesting itinerary for those who like arts and crafts.
